Napoleon Dynamite

Although Napoleon Dynamite is one of my all time favorite movies I never went to see it when it came out in theaters in 2004 because I thought it was going to be another stupid movie. It wasn’t until a couple of years later after the “heck yes” and “luckyyy!” quotes and the Vote for Pedro t-shirts that I was strolling through Blockbuster when I came upon it again. My little sister who is now 15 years old had been bugging me to go see the movie since the beginning. I was in the mood for a comedy and when I saw that I couldn’t find anything good that I hadn’t seen yet, I grudgingly rented Napoleon Dynamite. Expecting something lame, it was awesome when I saw that it was so not like that! It was funny, smart, quirky, and one of those movies you can watch over and over again and still be amused after the 100th time. Overall, it was a fun movie and I also appreciated the fact that there was no cursing, sex or violence. That is a rarity! I don’t know how the co-writers and director Jared Hess and Jerusha Hess pulled that off and still managed to make an exceedingly successful film, but they did. Jon Heder, the actor who played Napoleon Dynamite did a fantastic job with that role and Pedro, Uncle Rico, Kip and Deb were also hilarious. They managed to make a very low-budget film into a true gem. That is also a rarity in Hollywood.

The Dark Knight

I know that the Dark Knight is old news now but I thought it was one of the best movies of 2008. Comic book movies have never been my favorite but that hasn't stopped me from going to see a few of those flicks which was usually somebody else's idea to go. You can imagine my surprise when I was actually intrigued and enthused during the movie! All of the actors did a wonderful job and the cinematography was great too. Of course, Heath Ledger's untimely demise added to the drama but even if he had lived, the movie's popularity and charisma would have stood on it's own. Ledger was nominated for an Academy Award as was Framestore CFC for visual effects. I really wish more people and departments would have been nominated for an Academy Award, but oh well. I also don't agree with those people who say that Ledger would have never gotten nominated if he hadn't died. He did an awesome job of portraying the Joker, in fact, he deserves not only the nomination but he deserves to win.

Welcome! This blog is going to be all about films from the past, present and up and coming attractions that I believe are worth mentioning. I will blog about why I think a movie should have been shot and killed before having the audacity to take over a public movie screen or why I think a particular movie was so fantastically life-changing and totally awesome that it should have been hung in a high end museum along with all the other masterpieces. And of course, I'll be blogging about everything else in between. I hope you movie buffs enjoy!
